I have a 2000 grand am se engine 2.4l 4 cylinder, I was told that changing the timing chain would damage or bend your valves, is that true? Is the best option just to replace the engine?

No that's not true for sure, who told you that was trying to trip you off and get money. Take your car to a professional car technician and all you need is replacing the timing chain. good luck

NOT changing the timing chain could cause valve and rod damage if not repaired. By all means, replace the chain if it has slipped or broken. Still better than replacing your engine unless the rod or valve damage has already occurred.
