Major Leak on 02' Grand Am

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi Everyone! I'm having a huge issue with
my car & it leaking oil like crazy! I have had
this car for over 6 years now & haven't had
a drop of oil leak. Then all of the sudden 2
days ago, I go to it to leave & the oil light
came on. It's never come on before so I
was concerned. I went back home &
looked under the car & oil was consistently
dripping out. It's leaking out & has
completely covered my starter! I've been
reading post after post & I checked the oil
filter & the oil plug but they're ok. I f it
could be the rear main seal? It honestly it's
just so hard to tell where the hell it's really
coming from at this point.

I don't have the money for a mechanic
right now or a mechanically inclined man
to check it out. So here I am. Any
suggestions or ideas would be greatly
helpful & appreciated! Thanks

if it's the rear main, it'd be gushing out of the back ( in area in front of tran). The question is how often are you checking your oil and filter and basic maintenance? If you have had car for 6 years at any point did you change your head gasket or even rocker ( valve gasket)?? I have laid down old cookie sheets under my leaks in the past to get exactly where the leak is from. But that 's me. if the oil light came right away, it's probably dry or not enough pressure in block from a bad oil pump gone out. tuff break, best wishes

I'd suspect the oil pan gasket or the low oil level sensor. The low oil level sensor screws into the side of the oil pan. A valve cover gasket may leak like that but you'd see smoke from the front exhaust manifold. You should also check the oil pressure sending unit. That's usually located near the top of the oil filter. Hope that helps! Jim

I'll be out there again this afternoon checking these different things that you've both mentioned. Hopefully it's something that can actually be fixed. Thanks so much for the help!
