96 Grand Prix runs hot and whirring loudly

Asked by Lybra_1645 Feb 20, 2017 at 04:49 PM about the 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I replaced the serpentine on my Grand Prix after
driving through a deep puddle made it slip off and
never stay back on. Weeks later, when idling the
coolant still heats up fast, the heat fan won't always
run at full blast (I live in south Florida so it's
annoying to drive with the heat on all the time), and
when I accelerate or turn it makes a relatively loud
whirring sound which gets higher pitched the faster
I go. It does not leak coolant anywhere that I can
see but always needs more. What should I be
looking for as to the possible causes?

I think your water pump is not working and moving water throughout the system. The squealing sounds like the pump..
