What made the mechanic come to that conclusion? Sounds a little.......

He said my pump was going out so we decided to change it the next thing I know he told me that

well now the car won't run he says he will have to rebuild it or get a new motor

3.8? They are great engines that last almost forever, but from time to time one does just roll over and die on relatively short notice. Sounds like you may have one of those. While a second opinion might be nice, he likely knows what he's talking about. If its dead, its dead. The car is not worth spending any time or money on. Even if you find a good engine already out of another car for free its not worth the money to put it in. And remember it has to be the right engine, not just any old 3.8 you happen to stumble across. It's time for a new car my friend. Sad, but true.

Munron is right if it's truly a dead motor. BUT if what you have described is all there is to it. Get a second opinion.
