runs fine at idle but when I shift into any gear
besides neutral it dies it'll start back up but won't
shift and before this it would shake or jerk in low

Timing chains idler could be worn out Allowing for to much chain slop but usually last 100k Miles or crank shaft sensor or cam shaft sensors could be bad. The other weirdness I have experienced with this type of GM car is the harmonic balancer can also go bad making awful noises that seam terminal and just go away with new balancer. Sign of this when bolt holes to pull balancer have shifted
