Is my 98 Pontiac Grand Prix gtp’s fuel pump bad?

Asked by Mason May 05, 2018 at 11:51 PM about the 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 Dr GTP Supercharged Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car would start a few days ago and spit and sputter,
then die. Now it will turn over but won’t start at all. I’ve
checked all the fuses and they’re good. I checked that the
wires for the fuel injectors were getting connection. The
fuel pump primes. The fuel resistor doesn’t smell of
anything and there was no sign of gas in it (or dripping
from it) when I checked. I checked the fuel pressure and
when I turned the key it was at the psi it should be at,
then drops completely in less than 2 mins. I don’t have
money for all new injectors and a fuel pump. Is there a
way to tell the difference between which one is the
problem?

Don't start spending money on random parts hoping the problem will go away. Injectors don't all fail at once so you know that's not the problem. Not sure if the drop in pressure is a failed fuel pump or if that's what happens after it primes but the engine doesn't start, but a technician will. If you can't figure it out get a professional diagnosis before you start fixing things. It will save you money in the long run.
