People have told me that my Service Engine Soon Light comes on because I have a front fog light out is that true?

Probably not, the service engine light soon is for the engine systems

A light out will not trigger the check engine light. Newer cars may have a similar feature triggered through the body control module which would be a separate indicator lamp for a headlight. You have an engine sensor out of range that is throwing a code illuminating the "check engine" light. You need to get the code via OBD II scanner.

You can go to a local parts store and have them put it on the machine for free. It may not give you EVERY code, but usually you can get an idea and change what you can on your own.

I'm sorry, but it's not a "check engine" light, it's a "service engine soon" light. From what everyone says that is caused by a light out or the gas cap loose. I have a fog lamp out and the tuning signal light out. I'm working on fixing those as we speak so we will see what happens.

Check engine and service engine soon means the same thing, a loose gas cap will set the light but a bulb out won't.

Check engine light or service engine soon light only comes on for an emissions related issue. A loose cap can set that because the fuel vapors can escape and pollute the air, but it could be a bad O2 sensor, bad catalytic converter, or something else. Have to codes scanned by an auto parts store to find out what the issue is.
