2000 pontiac grand prix 3.8. Service engine soon light came on. Oreilly scan tool said its running too cold. The gauge barely comes up at all bu the heat seems to work fine. I changed the thermostat in case it was sticking open, but light remains on. I tried the key on accelerator thing , no change. headlights are both working. any ideas? Oh and there is no reset button near fuse panel behind glove box.

service engine soon light on.  Oreilly scan says its running too cold.  I changed
thermostat in case it was stuck open.  Heat works fine.  Tried the key on 3 pumps of
accelerator to reset, no change.  There is no button to reset in fuse box behind glove box.  
headlights are working.  Service engine soon light stays on.  Oil level is fine and at 60%
life left.

If the heat is working fine, then chances are it is just a faulty temp sensor.

two days after changing the thermostat, the light went back off. Probably only about ten miles worth of driving. I am going to get it rescanned to see if the code is gone. I am not sure how often it would recycle to clear the code after it was fixed. Oh and the gauge seems to be working properly again.
