Mine r rusted and I was told the car won't pass inspection due to the rust.

They are part of the exterior body panels. They keep bad stuff from getting inside. What state are you in - Penn?

a rocker panel is usaly the first place where a car gets rust on. like tenspeed said its part of the exterior panels . The good thing about a rocker panel is that it prevents the inside of the car from getting wet and from rust.

yes, I do live in PA. My car has no exterior rust. The rocker panels are covered by the plastic skirting...If the rockers don't really do anything for a car why am I being told that they need to be replaced?
