Bernard..Pont Gr Prix

Asked by drodriguez Apr 01, 2012 at 10:00 AM about the 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

Question type: General

Do you know if there is any difference? When I go on carparts.com it shows that is only has the one year that you can change it with...which is why I'm asking because transmissions usually have a few years like you said. Is the wiring different or anything for that matter?

the only thing that's different is if you have the sport shift mode, there's a beefier shift solenoid with a different program in the PCM. i'm pretty sure you could use a tranny from any 3.8 liter w body. that includes chevy impala's, pontiac bonnevilles, and oldsmobile alero's, but the years of them i'm not absolutely sure of. if your donor is a grand prix though, i know for sure a GTP tranny from 1998 to 2004 will bolt right in.
