Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is an EGR Valve on a 3.8L difficult to clean or remove & replace?  Most likely I will have to have a mechanic replace my Catalytic Converter.  Is it best to purchase the Universal Catalytic Converter in which the mechanic would then cut the old one out & replace with the new one vs purchasing the whole unit which consists of the piping to the engine & the piping to the resonator with the cat in the middle, the pricing is different however.

P0420 CATALYTIC CONVERTER!!!!!!!!!!!!! the prices are extremely different, most people go with the universal cats estimating $100-$200, and last about one year.....the dealer should be triple that (again guessing), but warranted for 8 years. call or price around local exhaust shops, usually just cut off the cat. itself, and reweld the universal in.If your car has 2 cats...some do. then you would have to either figure out which cat it was, (by the po420 code, then using the scan tool, the mechanic would read the sensor readings, to decide which are the bad ones, and determine the cat. EGR, fairly simple, but your level of experience determines if you break the thin dried plastic crap clips located around you in the engine bay", let me know if i helped, or can help more,. thanks

Its OBD2 DO NOT put a universal cat on it. It will last 6 months to a year and within that time it will clog the exhaust causing you to have to replace it again because you will have no power. It doesn't have the correct catalysts in it so it will destroy itself. Buy correct cat from a parts store and have a local shop put it in.
