How can I fix my Heat/AC so it works properly?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Good evening. I have a question or two to ask. First off, I had my
transmission replaced a while ago, and ever since then, my heating and A/C
don't work properly. I can't get any air(hot or cold)to blow out of any vents
unless I set the dial all the way to 5. Any ideas on what I can do to fix it so I
can get the vents to work again the proper way? Also, whenever I do turn
the dial, my A/C power button automatically comes on, and I can't turn it off
no matter how many times I press the button. It's almost like it's permanently
stuck in the on position, and I think this might be part of the reason that I
can't get any really hot air from the heat when I turn it on(which I can't do
anyway unless I put it all the way to 5 as previously stated). Is there a way I
can fix this too? Thank you in advance for any and all help.

It's been almost a year since it was replaced. I didn't mind at first because I was use to driving in the summer without A/C, and we haven't really had very many frigid days in the winter here to warrant extensive use of the heat, but, I would still like to try to get this fixed. Before the transmission was replaced, heat worked fine on all settings of the intensity dial(sorry I don't know the actual name of what I'm trying to describe, but, I just don't know a whole lot about cars), not just 5 like now. A/C never worked and would never come on no matter how much I pressed the button for it originally. Now, it seems like it's stuck on though it's not really blowing out any cold air even when I set the temperature to the coldest setting(more than likely a coolant problem in this case, but, still doesn't really explain why I can't actually shut it off the right way so the light above the switch goes out).
