will a supercharger from a 3.8 work for a 3.1 v6.

no. you will need to go with an aftermarket one. i have put a link for a 3.1l malibu kit to give you a ballpark cost. all 3.1l engines are the same so the kit will work. you will need to reprogram the ecm with the kit. http://www.andysautosport.com/chevrolet/1997_2003_malibu/performance/turbos_and_superchargers/supercharger_kits/rsm_racing/rsmr00043167.html probably more cost effecient to convert it to a 3.4L (easy change since the block is the same) and change the cam.
