Same thing but only when I accelerate

Asked by GuruDDVH5K Sep 27, 2023 at 05:55 PM about the 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a Grand Prix Pontiac 05 and this is my first
car by the way, I was on the freeway and I was
racing a van . When I was pressing down on the
gas I was happy I was winning until my car was
slowing down on itself when I reached 110 mph
The van then beat me and I was embarrassed. Note
this only happens when I reach 110 mph.
I need help and I really want to fix this issue , I want
to fix it myself  but I need recommendations on
what I shall do.

Fuel pressure and flow, exhaust system back pressure, engine timing problems, ie electronics, rev limiter activated.

There is no fix. The car was doing exactly what it's supposed to do. The top speed is controlled by the computer. It's programmed to reduce engine power so the vehicle will not exceed the maximum programmed speed. Hope that helps! Jim
