Start problem

Asked by GuruXSZMT Oct 26, 2018 at 12:03 PM about the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Haven't had any problems with starting. First time
it wouldn't start I got a couple clicks so I let it sit
overnight. Went to start again and it started. Stop
to get gas and it won't start again. No clicking
noise and now there's no power at all. No dash
lights or headlights absolutely nothing. I know the
battery is new. The car is 3.8L V6. I think it may be
the starter but not sure. What do you think it could
be?

It's NOT the starter. Don't start replacing things until you know for sure where the problem is. Sounds more like a loose connection or bad ground. Make sure battery terminals are tight and grounds are clean and tight. Also test to see if it is charging. If its not the battery will eventually go dead even if its new. Don't be afraid to take it to a shop for a diagnosis. That will usually save you money in the long run.
