Programming a key

Hi I have a 06 Grand Prix Pontiac v6 3.8. l
have a question about programming the key.
I was unsure about if I can program it myself
instead of taking it to the dealership and
paying the extra price to have it programed. I
seen a couple YouTube videos and I seen a
guy turning key three times and he
successfully programed the key. My key
carries a chip but, am I able to program it ??.
If I buy a key from Chevrolet would I be able
to program it like i've seen in Videos. Cause
lost my only key last week!!thanks you

Should be able to do it yourself. Instructions are in your owners manual. Follow step by step and you should be good. If you don't have a manual google Grand Prix Forums and you'll find it one one of the discussion threads there.

I believe you need a working key to do it. That’s where the security comes in. Without at least one working key I think it will require a trip to the dealer
You got it all wrong you do not need to go to the dealer you probably work for a dealer of course that's what you're going to say if you're on this form giving answers that would mean you should be knowledgeable about the subject and you're about the only one that says it can't be done
