2006 GXP 4.3l "Overheating"

Asked by MaryMac87 Dec 10, 2018 at 12:18 PM about the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix GXP

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I am completely frustrated...

we have replaced the temp sensor, the thermostat, instrument cluster. My
car is still saying that its overheating. The needle will go from normal to hot
back to normal in just a second or two and it will keep doing it as long as the
car is on. My husband and i are completely fed up with this issue. Can
anyone please help!

Sounds like the thermostat is in backwards and not able to sense the heat, and cycle correctly. Make sure you radiator cooling fans are coming on when things are this hot. Don't give up. It will be something simple.

If the needle is moving like that in just a second or two it sounds electrical or electronic to me. Trace wires and connections. Check fuses and relays if there are any. Or find a shop that specializes in automotive electrical. They are equipped and experienced in finding the source of this sort of problem. It will be money well spent.
