There are common problems that would make the CEL come on, but I believe that is a pre-OBD1 computer in there if not the OBD1 computer, most parts stores can't pull codes from the OBD1, but the engine is a pretty simple set-up compared to today's cars. Normally there is something wrong with the EGR system, or a vacuum leak, and possible 02 sensor along with the catalytic converter. These things most common to be checked out, may want to take it to a local trusted shop to have looked at.

When the CK gage light comes on, look first at the oil pressure, next at the gas gauge, and then at the alternator charging gauge. If everything is running normal, check all other gauges. Do you have a tire pressure sensor? Have those puppies check. Sometime it will come on for what ever reason. Usually it will recycle when you turn off the car. It is a warring light to draw your attention to the operating sensor gauges in your car. Us old timers usually constantly scan the gauges anyway, burt sometime you get busy and the CK gauges light is there to help you. If it does not recycle, give it a complete check of all fluids, including breaks, and lights and tires.
