having some real problems with my subaru

Hi i have a Subaru impreza 2000 2.5 RS 2door automatic. i recently have been having some big issues with my car but im not sure whats the problem im afraid my transmission is going to blow. when ever i back my car out of a parking spot and put the car in DRIVE. the engine reves and the car does not move until it (how do i say this i guess) KICKS IN. This is a big problem and im aware its happening.  Im  not fully up to date on car info so anything will help. it an amazing car and i dont want to lose it. Thanks

I would get the car checked SOON, It sounds like it might be the tranny or the "kick-down cable" (they might be called something else by Subaru). This is something I would not let go for much longer. Best of luck.

Could also be the valve body. Wife's '99 Saturn did the same thing, started slamming into reverse, and in that case the solution was to replace the valve body in the transmission at a cost of around $500. I did the labor or it would have been quite a bit more.

has the trany ever been flushed? if the fluid hasnt been changed than the tranny will slam into gear after a short hesitaion.
