Maybe you need to flush the cooling system and if that does not work the radiator may be too dirty to clean in which case replacing it might be the thing . Make sure the cooling fan also works.

Check rear heater hoses for blockage and external reservoir for bubbling percolated exhaust gases (head gasket failure) before investing in a new radiator. Water pumps are golden, so unfortunately that was a waste of money. Check rad front EXTERIOR surface for dirt/leaves/mud/sand blockage too...esp if overheating only on highway. Odds are you need to pull engine down and replace head gaskets, which may NOT be worth it on a 13 yr old....
