1995 Subaru Legacy Won't start

Asked by Oona Nov 22, 2017 at 04:29 PM about the 1995 Subaru Legacy LS Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So I have a 1995 Subaru Legacy that has been giving me trouble starting the
last month -- I'd have to give it gas while turning the key to get it to start. I
took it to Autozone and got it read --needs a new O2 sensor and has a
thermometer issue. They checked the battery, alternator, and starter; no
issues. Now the car won't start at all, just clicks. The car was purchased in
Texas, and this is its second year up experiencing a NY winter.

When it first started giving me issues with starting, I would either give it a
jump start, or hit the starter with a hammer and it would get going. Now it
doesn't respond to either of those. What should I do?

if hitting the starter would make it work, it is the starter solenoid failing- get a new starter- that is an old Subi and sooner or later you will have to take it to a mechanic- just sayin'

What is the current battery voltage measured at the battery?
