06 cobalt fuel problems help

are you leaving the engine running when your filling it?

have you got the OBD-II diagnostic trouble codes...go and have them read at an autoparts store for free or buy your own diagostic tool. there is a guide (online too) what these trouble codes mean if not on the device itself...that would tell us where to begin...would guess an ambient air temperature sensor and coolant sensor need to tell the ECM the prevailing conditons...also the TPS could be worn giving contradictory instructions to the fuel system....there is TOO much to be guessing at here....if you yearn for immediate satisfaction you could test each component for vacuum leakage to the vacuum hose, electrical resistance and passivity to ground~

old and cracking vacuum lines can leak...replace them with silicone rubber ones~

no i dont leave it running i shut it off and i just went a little bit ago and the codes are p0496 and p0206

You know the evaporative canister gets flooded. drowns and the computer quits...all because you didn't stop at the first click...normally a check engine light is illuminated until the canister is run dry of it~

well i have not filled it all the way up in a year i put maybe max 20.00 in it to bring it to half a tank so i never over fill it

if anyone knows of a place here in texas that does fake inspections please let me know cause the inspection is due this month on the car

and where can i find the ignition #6 and is it easy to fix the purge valve

P0496 is evap system flow during non purge. P0106 is map sensor performance

its not your canister but you can take judges advice over mine if you would like.

well judge did say the exact same thing someone else told me today word for word

the canister isnt the part that allows fuel vapor flow into the intake manifold. the purge valve does that and p0496 is a code for flow when its not being commanded.

but isnt the purge valve inside the canister cause someone told me that its part of the canister and if im going to replace the valve might as well replace the canister

reading the pinpoint test on a 2.0L engine which im not sure what engine you have. Anyways it lists checking the pruge valve and the fuel tank pressure sensor. the evap canister is not in the checks. it does not cause this issue.

is it a easy fix could someone that dont really work on cars able to do this or should i take it to a dealer and pay alot of money to get it fixed

it would be a easy fix once you know what the exact problem is. you need a scan tool to diagnose it correctly. you could take it somehwhere and pay the diag. fee and get it diagnosed correctly and then put the part on yourself it would be cheaper than having the dealer diag. and install.

Since this only happens when you refuel (didn't say fill cause you said you don't) did you ever think about having your tank checked for a FOREIGN object, like dirt or water. when you put gas in the tank, it stirs up what is in there and after driving a while it will then settle back down to the bottom Of course remember one thing, gas is lighter than water and will float on top while gas will go to the bottom, WHICH ironically is where the pickup valve is for the gas to get from the tank to the engine. Does not cost much to get a tester or even try a can of "HEET". If it helps there's your problem bud. Worst thing that could happen is to take the plug out of the bottom and flush the tank out. Don''t even have to take it off the vehicle

Absolutely the eye or purge valve on cobalt driver side of engine about half way back beside motor on metal bracket is where it is located it almost drove me and my wife nuts every time you put fuel in doesn't want to start this valve is the problem we heard a lot of opinions but this turns out to be somewhat common on cobalt at least.
