When I get on it to go up a hill it goes into engine power reduced mode?

There is no service engine soon light on before this happens, i got to accelerate and it
goes to kick into overdrive starts to then falls on its face and says engine power reduced, i
have to unplug the battery for it to go back to normal. This happens about once a month, i
have changed plugs, air filter, etc, still doesnt throw any lights until it goes into engine
power reduced. any ideas?
