Was wondering what motor would be straight
swap for my 1998 Subaru outback 4 Dr AWD

One just like the engine you have now. Anything else is endless trouble. Try for a same year engine.

That would be best. Make sure both engine are the same. No switching SOHC engines with DOHC.
