Engine swap for my 98 legacy outback

Asked by Grayson Mar 18, 2018 at 08:24 PM about the 1998 Subaru Legacy Outback Limited Wagon AWD

Question type: Car Customization

So I want to try and run some power in my subie.
It’s a 98 ej25 and I’ve heard that they have weak
heads. So can I throw any ej257 in it.

The 1996-1999 first gen OB had Subie's worst motor ever. Replacing it would also require changing other parts inc the ECM. These dinosaurs are usually best retired; just not worth resurrecting.

Well that’s disappointing. I love this car and was hoping to make it better but I guess I’ll run it stock till it dies
