Does a motor from an 2006 Chevy Equinox needs to be removed to change a spark plug?

Asked by MEL07 Oct 10, 2013 at 08:53 AM about the 2006 Chevrolet Equinox LS AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Equinox is making like a motorcycle noise once I get to 30mph.  If I speed up the
noise gets louder and worse.  I diagnosed my car and, it read #1 is malfunctioning.  A
friend of mine suggested me to a mechanic ( I not to sure if he's licensed).  He went to
my home and took a quick look at it.  I suggested that he would have to removed the
motor so, he can see where the wire leads to the spark plug ( I took a step back when
he said that.)  Is that true that I have remove the motor?  Can you look under the
Equinox to see, if you can undo it like that?  I was think of taking it to a "real"
mechanic.  I purchased the spark plug and wire.  How much (estimate) would they
charge me for just one spark plug?

A real mechanic would be a good idea. Our 07 makes a "motorcycle" noise when the StabiliTrak system activates. The only times we have had that activate is when we hit a large puddle at decent speed. I would wonder if maybe your system is kicking in when you hit 30 mph maybe there is a bad sensor or something
