I have a 2004 Subaru Legacy 35th
anniversary 2.5 ..I'd like to put a  
bigger engine in it with our having
to change transmission and rear
end. Is there an engine that will
swap out easily

Easily? The same size engine that is in it now. Anything else would be custom, difficult and expensive. Check some Subaru forums on what other owners have done.
