Differential

Asked by iLex91 Apr 01, 2017 at 04:08 PM about the 2006 Chevrolet Equinox LT AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Chevrolet Equinox 06 LT AWD has a problem with the
rear differential, it broke and when I drive it makes a very
nasty noise like 2 pieces of metal rubbing against each
other. I can't seem to find the part for it and I wanted to
know if it's possible to drive the car without the
differential. Someone told me that it can be taken out and
drive the car without setting it into AWD because it won't
work since one piece is missing but I can still drive
normal. Is this true? Can my Equinox drive without the
rear differential?

Do you by any chance know if the differential of a Chevrolet 06, 05, 07, 08 ls is the same as the Chevrolet 06 LT? Would the diff from those years and models fit my LT 06 AWD?

The first generation of the Equinox ran from 2005 to 2009 so there is a good chance the differentials would interchange. There should be an ID tag on the differential which you can use to make sure you get the correct replacement.

It's the u bolt in the center of the car and the carrier bearing, it took me forever and a day to figure it out because the sound echos from all over and it was the last thing I thought of. It makes it sound like it's coming from the front of the car but it's the center!

Well, this is what I need to fix, my mechanic told me it's the rear axle differential, just hay part not the whole thing.

removed the drive shaft on my 2005, no more hard engaging when front wheels spin. it would destroy diff, now i have better gripping tires up front but they could still spin in rain.
