Compatible parts?

I have a 2000 Outback that needs the rear differential replaced. Due to cost is was
recommended that I purchase used off have eBay to save money. The best price and
condition that I found is for a 2009, will it work in my 2000? Thanks in advance!

umm.. I'm not sure. I would take this question straight to the outback forums / nasioc / legacy /etc. I was trying to see if anything would show up in rockauto.com because it has amazing interchange lists but I don't know enough about the differential parts offered on there (just because it says rear.. rear on the front diff / rear diff - unclear to me). That said, I would search or register / ask / start a new thread on one of the forums. I know with the foresters, some came with different gearing in the back end or had a different length part, etc. Details!! I hope it works out for you friend. best regards,
