I bought a lemon... HG possibly blown and intermittently wont blow hot air

Have the head gaskets replaced under warranty. HG's are a known Subaru problem so they should not argue too much about it.

Replace the timing belt, idler wheels and water pump when the HG's are done. There should not be any extra labor costs.

This is my only car atm and I will have to fork up some cash for some things. I cannot afford a downtime for a few weeks. Can I use a HG sealer as a temp fix or will that screw me over in the long run. Been reading lots of stuff about how air getting near the heater core can gum up the sealer causing the heater core to have to be replaced

You can use an anti-leak product and hope for the best. Subaru makes a sealant that they recommend using a a preventative. The heater problem might just be from trapped air in the system. Look on Youtube for how to purge air from a radiator.

The anti-leak will not help if you are getting oil into the cooling system.

OKAY, you did get a warranty... that's great.. How long is the warranty? Get it fixed ASAP....

Its a 30k 2 year warranty. Already paid for itself when my cv joint busted and I had to get it replaced. Going to get it in asap though. Get the hg done and whatever else the warranty covers before it is up

I think you should consider yourself VERY lucky to have gotten a 30,000 mile, two years warranty.... How many miles are on this car...it's a 2000 model year??

Judging by all the problems you have described, maybe getting rid of it once the warranty is up would be an excellent idea??

Get everything you can fixed under warranty...some items won't be covered by the plan, if it's a maintenance issue...then, see if things settle down or just get whatever the can and move forward.... good luck.

Yes, your very very lucky, Could have been even more lucky by staying away from the Suby. A whole 30k mile warranty. Hard to sugar coat it. Remember buyers there are Awd's out there that do not have the bad rep that these later model Subaru do. This poor chap had so much luck its now better to save it for a vault to put the casket in or up on a building to show all what luck is really all about.

After reading 3-4 times I am very confused if your having good luck or bad luck. I think its whats called no luck with a topping with a extra scoop of bad luck (not like ice cream but more like peeing on doo doo) as even though the warranty covers it you have not verified that to be the case and even if it does, no way to get it fixed as its the only car you have drive while it is not getting fixed. So there you go. No luck with two scoops bad luck, Break a mirror so you can reverse it. Of course sign off on it that its your idea and not mine.

I actually think its a 3 year warranty. I have been meaning to calm them. The over heating was due to air getting trapped in the cooling system. Spent all day burping my lines to get it out. And have kept the fluids topped up. The cad was 210k miles on it. It's seen its use. I got either 6 months or a year and 6 months left on my warranty. But I feel fortunate with this warranty. Already paid for itself. And will double that just on the HG alone. The warranty also reimburse me for a rental vehicle while mine is in the shop. But of course I have to pay first instead of them just covering it
