Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a oil leak with my 2001 Subaru outback it has 244,000 miles on it  . The oil leak is coming from my oilpump area I jad my cam shafts seals replace about a year and a half ago . If I change out the oil pump seal do i have to do anything with the timing belt besides take it off and put it back on or other words by just changing the oil seal will I have to adjust the timing when i put it back together??? one more question I switch from 5w30 wgt oil to 10 w 40 wgt oil will this be ok or should i go back to the lighter wgt oil. I thought by doing this it would slow the leak down . Thanks for any help

10W-40 oil should work just fine. I would install a new belt, water pump and idler wheels while doing the work as the parts are not that expensive.

the timing belt , water pump and pulleys and wheels were all changed out when i had the timing belt done at 160,000 miles it now has 240000 miles on it

Keith, hope you are doing well. I must say that considering what you have invested in your car, you're really getting your money's worth. Keep up the good work, you're well on your way to 300,000 miles. Yes, a few oil leaks at 250,000 miles is really nothing.. I don't think a lot of people are going to criticize you for this.

80k on the belt? Time for a new one. You will be due for a new belt in 25k miles so save a lot of work and install a new one while you are at it.

Probably transferrable to the Outback as well..... Some people on forum don't like me pointing out facts.....you know who you are...see this article below from independent source, sorry.... http://www.torquenews.com/1084/forbes-says-subaru-forester- most-likely-run-over-250000-miles
