My 2001 Subaru outback wagon awd is running hot...Had the heads fixed last yr. with new water pump and belt...I had it checked but it's holding compression, radiator is fine, no anti freeze mixing with oil No white smoke , no leaks, etc..Decided to change water pump and belt again and it's still running hot ...Could it be it was torqued wrong when the heads where replaced???

Is your idiot light coming on ???? it could be your engine coolant temperure senser but I think this would throw a code P0118 or maybe your fans aren't coming on ???if you find out let me know thanks Keith

No lights coming on and I changed the sensors just in case!.....Fans are working fine.....The only thing I could think is I haven't/had small leak in the heater core which caused air pockets in the system??? But then again that must have sealed up because my windows are not fogging up since the car started running hot...Someone told me to buy prestone radiator sealer, put it in the coolant and have the system bled ???? Why I would do that, I don't know???

Where do I get the light and where do I get the funnel with different colored caps.....then how do I bleed the system?????

I usually get my stuff thru Amazon but you can also get them thru your local parts store . I like having these around because I can use them on different vechicles the funnel will come with insructions basically you just fill the funnel part way and let the engine get hot and wait for the bubbles to stop coming to the top the funnel comes with an adapter cap that allows you to seal it to the radiator cap

it you suspect a leak get one of the UV kight kits taht have the fluids you can put in the engine, coolant sytem and the transmisson system that will help you find the leak , they are good to have around if you work on your own cars , but you thought that you didn't have a leak. I doknow that if air is trapped in the coolant system it will over heat the system I got one of the Lidale yellow funnels with the different caps that let you fill the radiator and bleed the system

If the eng. gets hot I could blow the head gasket....Do you mean warm up the car or wait till it runs hot??? If it runs hot how would I take off. The radiator cap????? I'm lost here???

are you talking about the funnel ??? if so you attach the funnel to the radiator before you start the engine than fill the funnel with antifreeze start the engine and after it heats up you will to start to see air bubbles coming uo thru the funnel , your fans should also come on so it won't overheat the engine doing it this way ? not sure if this is what you are asking me putting the funnel in the radiator cap is just like putting the radiator cap on no air will get in the system Check out some You tube videos on bleeding the air out of the coolantsystem this is the video link -- https://video.search.yahoo.com/video/play;_ylt=A0LEVrbr5xlVSTUAKbcn nIlQ;_ylu=X3oDMTB0dmRibmhwBHNlYwNzYwRjb2xvA2JmMQR2dGlkA1 lIUzAwMV8x? p=bleeding+the+air+out+of+a+subaru+coolant+system+with+the+Lydale +funnel&tnr=21&vid=6ADC645D5A84A0F9BD7F6ADC645D5A84A0F9BD 7F&l=573&turl=http%3A%2F%2Fts3.mm.bing.net%2Fth%3Fid%3DUN.6 08041767610877394%26pid%3D15.1&sigi=11rtr0cea&rurl=https%3A%2 F%2Fwww.youtube.com%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DxYkKW0OyeUc&sigr=11bv hdgv8&tt=b&tit=How+To+Bleed+The+Air+Out+Of+A+Cooling+System+- +How+To+Use+...&sigt=11ttniri7&back=https%3A%2F%2Fsearch.yaho o.com%2Fyhs%2Fsearch%3Fp%3Dbleeding%2Bthe%2Bair%2Bout%2 Bof%2Ba%2Bsubaru%2Bcoolant%2Bsystem%2Bwith%2Bthe%2BLydal e%2Bfunnel%26ei%3DUTF-8%26hsimp%3Dyhs- 001%26hspart%3Dmozilla&sigb=14ik86hrj&hspart=mozilla&hsimp=yhs- 001

Have you tried checking the actual engine temp with an infra-red thermometer ? I just went thru "50 questions" with my Subi - gauge reading HOT after 15 minutes or so of idling. Turned out, infra-red said the engine was NOT hot ( 190 at the hottest ) while the gauge on the dash was topping out in the red. Changed the coolant temperature sensor and VOILA!
