Normally, I would not hesitate to advise fixing your car as it's usually less expensive to repair your car, but, this is a pretty big deal. You might want to check your synchronization and throw out bearings when you examine the clutch. Don't know how many miles are on your car, but, it's 15 years old. You might be looking at a transmission overhaul and examination of all your gears. If 5th gear is going , then it's just a matter of time before the other gears follow. I'm sure that it doesn't shift as crisply as the day you acquired it. And, are you the original owner? If so, I would say you got your money's worth. If the engine is sound, it's worth fixing, otherwise, I would trade it in. Is it in immaculate condition? If not, get rid of it.
It's a lot of mechanical work. I had a complete transmission overhaul years ago and on a different car and it was very expensive. And mechanical gears that need machine work is very involved.
By the way, do yourself a favor next time and purchase an automatic. Especially today, they last longer and get better fuel mileage.
