2006 chevy hhr

I just replaced my rack and pinion.
Now the car won't start and says
check recharging system. What wire
could I have messed up possibly?

Thanks Tom, I think your on the right track. That's kinda what I was thinking. I didn't disconnect any wiring as it was not necessary. I think I just blindly messed it up put the new one in.

Can't find a blown fuse. So far I can't see or find a pinched wire. Actually not many wires around the area I was working to pinch. But something is ground out . Lights on dash stays on till power is gone

I have a small leak in my evaporative emission system. What does that mean and where would I look to fix this prob ?
