Anyone have a problem with CV boots from parts store, not Subaru dealer?

Depends on the parts store and the brand you buy usually. For me, Autozone is maybe a 25 percent chance of success for a reliable part. O'reily's Auto 50 percent and Napa Auto 75 Percent. It really depends on the people working behind the counter also. House brand products are usually junk in my opinion. Spend a little extra money and by name brand products...Factory products preferably. For me at first getting life time warranty on products was excellent....BUT then after replacing the same product year after year it became very annoying. Okay, on to your car....So you got a burning oil smell....Any thing else? Transmission screwed up? If it works fine then ignore what the dealer said. Got vibration? Whining noise? Grinding noise? If none are present.....replace the CV boots and go from there... Unless the dealer can show you evidence of what is screwed up. Just my opinion...Do what you think is best..
