Is there a safer alternative to using starter fluid?

The only thing unsafe about starter fluid is that it's flammable and that's why it works. It's ether, a very flammable gas. You should not be needing it on a regular basis unless there is something seriously wrong with the engine not wanting to start.

Only use a small shot. Using a large amount could be dangerous and it can damage the engine.
