When I pull the hood relesae nothing happens. I tried pulling the cable with pliers and no results. Any suggestions?
It doesn't feel it is releasing the the latch at all.

Sounds as though the cable has become stretched, broken, or disconnected from the latch assembly underneath the hood. This will require some creative bending and stretching for you to get up underneath and unlatch the hood from the engine compartment area so you can replace the cable or further diagnose the problem.
