A church member is selling a 02 4 Runner with 250k miles what do you feel is a fair price and what issues should I consider?

Thanks, 5700 is the asking...I have a 93 volvo with a half million miles on it I got 8 years ago for 1600 and only had to put a clutch and timing belt in it(after 4 years), for the simple fact it had never been replaced. I have always kept it because it won't die, and the insurance is 36 dollars a month though it's in the shop now, it out lasted my 05 Denali Xl, 97 deville that needed heads at 70k and my 07 Escalade that simply started falling apart...gas wise still getting upper 20's at the least on the volvo, but the Denali was good and strong loved it...gas at 250-300 a week not so much... Just hoping the 4 Runner might be another volvo experience...

That's because it's a (pre 1999) Volvo. No surprise to me a Volvo will last that long, although it's really pushing the limit. I have always been an "Buy American" kind of guy, but when it comes to Volvo, especially pre-1999 when Volvo sold their car (but not truck or machinery) manufacturing division to Ford. Ford tried to keep up the superior engineering Volvo always had a reputation for, but in 2008 Ford sold Volvo to the Chinese. Yeah, you read that right. Volvo's are now about as Swedish as a, well, let's just say they are now Chinese and leave it at that. Sad. My Toyota was assembled in the USA, with 70% of parts manufactured in USA. I expect it to last 300,000 because 1) I take very good care of my cars 2) Toyota's reputation. Only thing is I will not keep it that long regardless. They hold re-sale value better than any other car and I will buy a new or low mileage car, (40,000 miles maximum) not necessarily Toyota, before the 100,000 mark.

I had my 1998 4Runner v6 Limited until 281k miles (sold it and still running great), new owners drove it 7 hours home!! keep up on the maintenance and it will run forever. I loved it, also had Grand Cherokee with 245k miles on it when I sold that. When something breaks, just fix it, otherwise something else can or will go wrong, then pretty soon, you need 5 things fixed and you think the car is "junky".

I have a 2000 4 runner and all I had done was timing belt, starter, fuel pump, belts and brakes. Runs great with 224000 miles.
