power steering leak

what happens is when i top it off it stops whining for bout a month then it starts
again.So do you think its a rotted hose the reservoir or the whole unit needs
changing?If the whole thing needs changing what do i need to change as far as
parts?

Sounds it should be obvious what is leaking, if you have doubts then get some dye from your parts store, run it a while the have it black lighted and that will show you what is leaking. This old it could be anything from a leaking hose to the steering assembly.

Without seeing the vehicle in person it's impossible to know. But, I assume, power steering fluid isn't spraying out all over the place. So it's on the return side of the system, not the pressure side. Hope that helps! Jim
