That sounds like you have a cracked circuit board or a solder joint has came loose. You can either take it out and send it for repair via the dealership, or go with an aftermarket system. Aftermarket might be the way to go cause of the year of your vehicle some parts might not be available.

Thanks for responding - do you know how to remove the system so I can check if it is either of your suggestions? What is an aftermarket system?

Aftermarket would be like Car Toys, Best Buy or even a local automotive stereo store. As far as taking out your stock unit you will first need the reactivation code from the dealer then remove your unit by disassembling the front dash bezel then unbolting the radio chassis and carefully removing the unit noting where the wiring connectors go, then you can check what you want. You may need an interface for the radio system , You may want to see a pro car stereo shop .
