2004 avalon shifter cable

Asked by Guru9NL6K5 Aug 07, 2023 at 02:43 PM about the 2004 Toyota Avalon XL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The shifter is put on P but the dash shows it's on D. And I can't start the
engine. The repair shop said the transmission shifter cable needs to be
replaced and they quoted me for $1,000 ($300part + $700labor). Is this a fair
estimate?

NAPA sells a repair kit for that cable. Labor isn't in the guide book for that vehicle. You should call the dealer and find out how bad that shop is trying to screw you.
