Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi CarGurus, I have a 2004 Toyota Avensis wagon (Japanese model similar to avalon), and am fitting a cruise control from the higher spec model. I have fitted the factory cruise control steering wheel control stork, and it plugs into the factory wiring harness correctly on the steering wheel, but its not working, i suspect i need a cruise control module to control it. Can you please point me inthe direction of where the cruise control module is located on a 2004 Avensis? I can grab one from a wrecker, just need to know where it is and wwhat it looks like. Many thanks :) Russ, New Zealand.

There is probably a throttle actuator and a link to the brakes to deactivate the CC. There should also be a tie in to the speed sensor. There is probably more to this so good luck.

This article is pretty basic but maybe it will help ------ https://auto.howstuffworks.com/cruise- control2.htm

Hi F_O_R Very good point, but the 1AZ is already fly by wire so i figure all the hardware is in place for the CC to work. I ASSUME its really just a software routine with some extra inputs from the driver stork. Still keen to hear thoughts...

I wonder if your ECU will support the CC or if you would need a different ECU? Somehow I think you are wasting your time and money.

If anyone else knows if I need a seperate Cryuise Control Module, or if that programming is on the main ECU, and so an ECU swap, I'm alllll ears :)
