Anyone else have this happen?

Asked by Myzta Apr 06, 2021 at 06:51 PM about the 2006 Toyota Avalon XLS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My avalon is acting up. The ac will work
and no "warning" lights will come up on the
dash. Then the ac will stop blowing cold,
the thermostat guage will drop below c,
the brake indicator will come on as well as
the ABS light.
After a time the ac will blow cold again and
all the warning lights will go back off.
Anyone else have this happen?

Sounds like a bad ground. The first place I'd look is the coolant temperature sensor. Sounds like it's got a bad connection. When the coolant temperature sensor comes unplugged or stops sending a signal to the computer that will cause the temperature gauge to drop. It will also cause the computer to assume the engine is overheating as a safety measure to prevent engine damage. That's why the air conditioning stops blowing cold. The computer disables it because the air conditioning adds a heat load to the cooling system. So check the wiring going to the coolant temperature sensor first, then go from there. Hope that helps! Jim
