Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My girlfriend contacted me and said
when she went to get the tires
checked out, one of the employees
working there said that it requires a
special tool to remove them. I am at
work and am unable to see for
myself because I work off shore.
What I am asking is does the car
require any special tool or key for
getting the tire off?

Only if somebody put a lock-nut on the wheel Toyota does not use factory lock nuts and no special tools are needed, it's just like any car, no tricks

On top of that a tire shop can use a tool any decent shop has and break the lock nut. It deters a would-be thief but are not hard to defeat

Please post back with the official story. I love to hear how shops try and pull a fast one especially when a girl walks in the door! I've seen some good ones...........

I was told the same thing, at the dealership, in my hometown. Because part of the oil change is tire rotation. Well, I now know where the key is. And I’m sure they did, as well, seeing how they do this for a living. It’s located in the trunk with the spare tire. I found this out after the fact. They also didn’t reset my dash. That was fun trying to figure out. So they may or may not have changed the oil, know that I think about it. I’m the second owner of this Camry. I sure didn’t put locks on the wheels. I don’t know if it came that way or were added.
