Engine Light On

Asked by Mark Jan 10, 2019 at 04:54 AM about the 1993 Toyota Camry LE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Hi, I have a 2.2 liter Camry Auto sedan. My problem started about 2 weeks
after I gave my engine a good hosing down at the car wash. The engine light
came on when I pulled up and the motor started to run rough. Now, when I
first start the car it runs really rough until the engine light comes on. Once
that light comes on the motor runs smooth but she is running really rich and
is sluggish on acceleration and hesitant to change into top gear. I went
through a brand new set of plugs in 2 weeks. All the symptoms pointed to
the MAP sensor which I have replaced but no difference. Replaced the air
intake hose that was split and checked fuses and vacuum hoses. I did put it
in the shop but they said they couldn't diagnose it until the engine was
degreased and the air intake hose replaced. I believe the next most likely
culprit is the catalytic converter but that is just from what I have read. Any
ideas /suggestions greatly appreciated :-)
