Will low oil make car run hot

No. Usually low oil will make the engine start to ping and knock. If it gets too low, yes it will get hot, but very quickly. That's when your pistons seize and lock up. If you are running hot, replace the thermostat, and make sure you have plenty of fluid in your reserve jug. If you still run hot after replacing the thermostat, you may want to replace your radiator temp sensor and your engine temp sensor.
