If you notice white smoke out the tail pipe that has a sweet smell to it then it is a head gasket. Chances are if it is not leaking. Otherwise the thermostat should be changed out and make sure the fans are working.
Thanks for replying! White smoke comes out when I start it up in the morning until the car warms up, but no continuous smoke. I have notice the smell of freion. My friend changed the thermostat for me which tripped on the check engine light which wasn't on. I thought it might be the head gasket was praying it wasn't.
Ask your friend if he purged the cooling system after refilling it from air pockets. This sight shows how... www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUpXgAJ1gjU
Try purging the cooling system, there is air trapped in the cooling system. Do not be letting the engine get hot.
Ok I'll try that. I went out and bought a water pump so I'll hold off on replacing that. Thanks so much!
Yea, try purging the cooling system first, it helps to have the front of the car raised up some since air bubbles go upward.
Ok I've taken note of everything you've said I will keep you posted
Update: Flushing the system seems to have solved the over heating problem. Thanks so much
