Does the 2.2 4L engine have bending valves?

Does the 96 Camry 2.2L 4Cyl. engine have bending valves? If the timing belt breaks while you are driving, do the valves get bent? Is this engine salvageable w/ a new timing belt, water pump etc.? OR Do I need a whole new engine? I am receiving conflicting advice.

Hello, When you are receiving conflicting advice, go straight for the source. AutoZone has a number of free Repair Info Guides for certain cars, including yours (I checked). Go to http://www.autozone.com and enter in your vehicle information. Then click "Repair Info" and "Repair Guides." There you will find great diagrams and troubleshooting for your car. Best of luck! When I get a problem like this . I take the engine head off. And check all valves. There very easy to take off. Your looking for a bent valve. When you find one make sure it did not damage your Engine head. They do that a lot. Good luck.
