Camry Stopped and Will Not Start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2000 2.2L with 65K miles. Thursday had a terrible engine grinding/rattle noise. Friday started up, same noise but then simply stopped running.  Cranked okay. Strong. Suspected something in the timing belt area. Opened it up. The belt was NOT broken (looked  new) but the water pump was damaged.  Metal shavings and antifreeze in the timing belt compartment. Changed the timing belt, idler pulleys and water pump and was careful not to mover the cam or crank shafts. Reassembled and tried to start.  Cranked and started briefly 10-20 seconds.  Would not respond to my giving it the accelerator.  Then stopped and would not start up again, but still had good crank. There were metal shaving on the crank sensor when I opening it up but cleaned it off (I hope). The car has gas in it but acts like it doesn't.  No gas smell as the engine is cranking.  I have yet to pull the engine code and plan on doing that this evening. Anyone know what the problem is likely to be???

P.S. All the grinding and rattling noises stopped after I replaced the water pump. If you want to hear how bad the noise was before replacing the water pump, watch this YouTube video. https://youtu.be/X0cY5jMQtEA
