There a dozens of solenoids on your Camry. Which one? Normally I would say you are perfectly safe to drive to shop, as long as shop is not too far away. But the 'screeching' part concerns me. So again what solenoid exactly? $8 to rebuild what?

Starter..... I tried starting yesterday, had never had a problem. Loud screeching and staccato sounds, did not engage, would not turn off even when I removed key. I turned it on w key and it did start, I whommed it and it began sounding normal, turned it off and it turned off. Am terrified.... am old lady!!! Bought this car new in 2000.
Ok. That is a stuck starter solenoid. Go ahead and drive to shop, assuming it starts and does not keep spinning starter afterwards...otherwise you could break gears off flywheel. That's bad, and by bad I mean $$$$. Now this thing from Amazon, forget about it and let the mechanic do what is needed...as long as he is trusted/reputable or this is a dealer.
